How to Eliminate Your Fear of the Unknown

Author:NeuroGym Team

Have you felt any changes occurring in your life lately? The season has changed (happy fall!), the planets are shifting their alignment, and another year is coming to a close.

So if you’ve felt any ups and downs lately, or if you feel overwhelmed by the unknown of the future, this Innercise will put your mind at ease.

It’s totally normal to feel worried, stressed, or anxious about what may happen in the future. It just means your amygdala and visual cortex are running the show inside your brain.

Your amygdala is the fear center of your brain, and it’s triggered by anything that may cause you harm.

And although the amygdala was super helpful during the days of cave dwelling, in this day and age your fear circuit can distract you from your goals.

It can leave you petrified of job interviews or starting your own business. If you’ve ever been stuck in the comfort zone, you know what we’re talking about.

During times of transition, to turn off the fear center, you’ll need to activate your motivation circuit.

When you have a positive mindset about the future and feel confident in your ability to achieve your goals, your brain will give you a nice dose of motivation (instead of the paralyzing anxiety).

If you feel uncomfortably uncertain about the future, remember: it hasn’t happened yet; you still have the power to create what comes next.

Innercise® on How to Gracefully Deal with Big Changes

Take a seat, settle in, and try this quick Innercise.

  • Take six deep, slow breaths and completely relax
  • Close your eyes and think about the aspects of your future that are unknown, and focus on one “unknown” that’s causing you the most stress and anxiety.
  • Now, start to visualize exactly what you want to happen in the future . . . to release the anxiety of your current unknown situation.
  • See the future unfolding exactly as you wish it to happen, and as you visualize it in great detail, through your first person perspective, see yourself living the reality of your dreams . . .
  • Feel grateful for all of the blessings around you, and to yourself for achieving them.
  • Whenever you start to feel anxious about the future, return to this scene in your mind, and express gratitude.

Not only is this a huge mood-booster in the short term, but this Innercise will also be an invaluable tool as you set off to achieve your goals. Visualizing what you want will give you the confidence you need to move forward with clear direction. This boost will give you the footing to overcome common fears such as fear of failure.

If you can visualize what you want, you’ll have an easier time consistently striving for it.

There’s a good chance that you can achieve your goals in life if you’re bold enough to go after them. Often, the biggest thing standing in someone’s way of success is their mindset for growth.

Once a negative thought pattern starts looping in your brain, you can get sucked into a vortex of self-doubt, making you too afraid to act. At NeuroGym, we understand that with the right mindset, you’ll be able to learn how to overcome fear and take action.

Do this Innercise anytime you need a dose of boldness, and get excited and grateful about your future!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.
