Innercise: How to Reduce Your Daily Stress and Anxiety

Author:NeuroGym Team

According to dozens of recent studies, you can add heart disease to the list of health problems caused by stress.

You’ve probably heard that “stress kills” before, and now research reveals just how devastating the destruction can be for your body.

Welcome to the Innercise® on managing your emotions! Here’s where we use proven psychology and the latest advancements in neuroscience to help you reduce your stress and anxiety.

Watch this short video to discover a simple 3-minute Innercise proven to dramatically reduce stress levels.

If you’re not in a place where you can watch the video right now, here’s the gist of it.

Your brain and nervous system are not designed to handle long-term stress.

Some stress, when it comes to performance, may be good for you . . . but too much will drain your energy and overwhelm your willpower. And when your body goes into burnout from chronic stress it damages pretty much every part of your cognition.

Your left prefrontal cortex (the CEO of your brain) stops functioning properly, which cripples your productivity. Your immune system starts to shut down, and your healthy sleep pattern diminishes. That means viruses and bacteria can slip through your defenses and infect your system with ease.

Worse, stress is linked to depressive disorders and can lead to anxiety and panic. And now researchers are proving it causes heart problems? Geez, Louise! Stress is scary stuff . . .

So, how do you fight back against this fearsome foe?

You practice this Innercise to reduce your daily stress!

This Innercise is called “Adult Time Out.” It’s so simple. Here’s all you have to do.

  1. Schedule an event in your calendar 3 times a day for a “time-out” (or set a reminder on your phone)
  2. When the “time-out” comes, take 3 minutes out of your schedule, close your eyes, and breathe deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth.
  3. You’ll be amazed as you can actually FEEL your stress evaporate. (Also, if you look in a mirror before and after, you’ll see a visible difference in your face. Try it! It’s remarkable.)

This breathing exercise is based on neuroscientific principles . . . you can think of this like pushing the reset button on your brain. And when you push that button it pumps the brakes on the cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine that flood your mind when you’re stressed.

With lots of practice, you can not only reduce your stress . . . you can eliminate stress entirely.

The reason this works is that it signals to your brain that everything is O.K. and that you’re safe. You can relax. And when you’re relaxed, you know how much more productive and focused you are, right?

So, now that you’ve watched the video or read this blog post, you know it only takes 3 minutes . . . so there are two things you can do now.

First, give it a shot. Close your eyes for 3 minutes and focus on your breath. Next, leave a comment below on how you feel when you’re done and share this Innercise video on Facebook. Tag a friend who you know has a busy schedule or someone who’s told you they feel overwhelmed or stressed.

What’s next?

By retraining your brain for success, you’ll stop standing on the edge of your potential, and you’ll start fulfilling more of what you are capable of achieving.
