How to Set and Achieve Your Goals

Author:NeuroGym Team

Do you believe it’s possible to make 2021 the best year yet? Well, it is . . . and now’s the perfect time to start planning for it.

But before you start setting your epic goals for the year, check this out . . .

If you’re like most people, the number one thing holding you back from your ultimate potential is that you don’t take time to figure out the best plan for you.

An individual and specific plan will help us to take action toward your goals and dreams. Armed with a plan and specific skills for achieving goals, you’ll start to notice how your lifestyle changes.

Do you believe it’s possible to move from leading an ordinary life to living an extraordinary life?

(You have to do more than just think, hope, and pray about having an epic year filled with love, health, creativity, wealth, and prosperity.)

If you want to make 2021 your best year yet, start by breaking down the goal achievement process into 3 parts.

Think and become rich john assaraf ebook

  • Clarity and vision for what you want is 3 percent of goal achievement pie.
  • Having a plan with strategies and tactics then tracking and reviewing your progress is 17 percent.
  • And 80 percent of the goal achievement process is taking action toward your plan, being mindful of what gets in the way (i.e., fear and emotions), and seeing your obstacles as opportunities for growth.

O.K., let’s say you want to make a million dollars in the beginning of the decade, for example. How will you plan for that?

Write down your BIG goal, state WHY you want to accomplish it . . . then do the following:

  • visualize what you want and the goal accomplishment version of yourself in great detail;
  • upgrade your mindset, emotional intelligence, and skillset;
  • take action and track your progress every day along the way; and
  • use the obstacles and “failure” you face as fuel for your success (what worked? what didn’t? what needs to change?).

The first step to living an extraordinary life in 2021 is to prime your brain for success by creating the story, focus, and the direction for your dream. With clarity comes excitement, right? And creative visualization activates the feel-good neurochemical, dopamine, which motivates you to continue to move in the direction of your dreams.

Do our creative visualization Innercise for some guidance on this piece of the goal achievement process.

Find more ways to activate your positive neurochemistry so your brain can focus on what you really want to accomplish—despite the internal and external distractions.

Be aware of your emotions. Emotions aren’t good or bad. They’re either pleasant or unpleasant, empowering or disempowering, inspiring or expiring. Right?

Fear, for example, sets off a chain reaction that puts the brake on your motivational circuit for achieving your goals. So, it’s imperative that you learn how to recognize your fear-based emotions and develop tools (i.e., mindfulness, diaphragmatic breathing, journalling, Innercising) so you can easily recognize and release the fear from your mind and carry on with your journey toward success.

You see, the neuroscience of success has a lot to do with our emotions. And it’s very important that we learn to navigate through them. The purpose of feelings is to give you strong signals to what’s happening in your head and heart.

Feelings are a chance for us to examine our lives. When you feel lonely, angry, or anxious, ask yourself: What is the root cause of this emotion? Why do I really feel this way? How can it help me to overcome my fears and accomplish my goals and dreams?

Understand that the feelings you have aren’t the problem; it’s just your subconscious mind directing your vision, goal, behavior, experience, and outcome. So when you reprogram your subconscious mind and change your behavior for success, that’s when you unlock and unleash the full potential of your brain.

This is freedom. This is when you unshackle and have a beautiful state of flow . . . where you can put your foot on the accelerator and start taking more organized and disciplined action toward your goals and dreams.

Next, develop strategies and tactics.

Remember, a strategy allows you to figure out exactly what you must do in order to achieve your goal. Your strategy is basically the overall game plan. Ask yourself: How can I achieve my goals? What do I need to do?

A tactic is a specific action item you’ll follow through with in order to put your strategy into play. And developing tactics is a way to break down the strategy into smaller chunks/tasks. Tactics make it easier to implement the strategy one day at a time.

Once you are clear with your mind, heart, and spirit about why you want to reach your goal and what you need to do to achieve it, it’s time to reprogram your non-conscious brain and track your progress.

Why is this important? Humans have more than 50,0000 thoughts circulating each day . . . so if you want to succeed in reaching your goal, you must let your brain know that it’s important to you by thinking about it every day.

Start small by taking 5 minutes each morning to visualize, review, and think about how you’re going to accomplish your goal.

Your subconscious mind is on autopilot and will do what’s easiest and what conserves the most energy by following your repetitive patterns and habits. But if you check in every day to make sure you’re on track for your extraordinary life, this will become a habit, too. And eventually, with enough practice, goal accomplishment will become a behavior.

And ask yourself at the end of each week track your progress: Did the work I did this week move me backward or forward toward my goal?

To accomplish your vision and lead an extraordinary life, you must establish a goal achievement process. Otherwise, you’re leaving it all up to chance. Setting a goal is easy but to have your best year yet, you have to think differently . . . and establish daily success rituals that move you closer to your dreams.

By planning, reviewing, and seeing your ideal life on a daily basis, you activate the occipital lobe in the brain, the motivational center in the brain, the left prefrontal cortex.

This is the genius part of our brain that helps get us stay motivated and inspired to be self-disciplined, focused on what we want to achieve, and willing to take action toward our goals and dreams.
